The All-Ireland Coastal Rowing Championships 2025 were an unforgettable weekend for Gurrane Boat Club, with crews travelling to Glenarm, Co. Antrim on August 15th–17th and returning home with incredible results. But the celebrations did not end on the water.
At Sunday evening’s homecoming, we were honoured to be joined by Maurice Corkery, a proud former Gurrane rower from the 1940s and 1950s. Maurice, who represented the club in its earlier days, was pictured with our winning boats and shared in the joy of the moment.
While he wasn’t in Antrim for the finals, Maurice made sure to give his seal of approval at home, praising the club’s huge success and the remarkable progress made since our relaunch. His words of encouragement carried special meaning for members young and old, as they linked today’s achievements with the legacy of those who rowed before us.
For the entire club, Maurice’s presence was a reminder that Gurrane’s story is one of continuity – a tradition of community, resilience, and passion that spans generations. As we look ahead to the future, it was fitting to have the past standing proudly beside us at the homecoming, cheering on the next chapter of success.
